Blooming obvious
A little obsession of mine this year has been keeping colour in the garden all year round to support a healthy insect population and, in turn, birds too. The easy way to do this is any time the garden is looking a little green, go to the garden centre. They tend to sell whatever's in bloom at the time as it looks nice and you tend to buy it. Obvious, isn't it, but it took me long enough to work out!

Don't forget to get your bulbs in for early spring colour, bees and other insects will appreciate these. The best part is you do the hard work now and then feel really chuffed when they effortlessly appear at the beginning of the season.
I also built something called a fedge in my garden, a stick construction stuffed with cones, reeds, twigs etc. to house overwintering insects.
Cool, although I thought a fedge was a living fence?
